Where is HELIO located ?
HELIO is located 14 miles southeast of San Diego in a sunny industrial park in Eastlake; where we use primarily solar power technology to generate electricity that powers HELIO hosted servers. We love what we do and are excited to part of a new future where technology and energy conservation can breed a better future for all.
How did HELIO Hosted happen ?
HELIO started out as a test to see if one server could be solar powered. The answer was NO. Because of technological inefficiencies with charging batteries there was not enough "sunshine time" to fully charge batteries each day and drain them each night to power the server. The solution was to rotate battery strings so each string of batteries had more than one day to charge. Even this approach only gets us 68% powered by the Sun.
What kind of servers do you use ?
A clean server is definitely not your average machine. Ever server that HELIO uses is a highly customized intel based system. HELIO servers are low power energy efficient Core2Duo systems arranged in a load balanced configuration to maximize availability and performance.
Who do you host ?
HELIO primarily hosts businesses that are trying to make an effort to change the way they use energy. Some of HELIOs industries are city websites, energy companies, energy vendors, schools, construction / engineering / architectural, water departments and dozens more.
